Guided walks

Are you interested in discovering more about the fynbos vegetation that makes this part of the world so special?  Or perhaps you would like to visit our Rock Art and Heritage Site with a guide who can tell you more about the paintings you are seeing.  We offer 2-hour introductory walks, as well as longer specialist botanical walks. All our walks are personalised and tailored to suit your needs.

Introductory walks  (1.5-2.5 hours)Guided walk to rock art heritage site

Introduction to Fynbos and the Rock Art of Phillipskop

Our most popular guided walk incorporates an introduction to the Cape Flora as you walk along the relatively flat Waterfall

Trail into Candlewood Valley, and a visit to our cave, the Phillipskop Rock Art and Heritage Site, where you will learn more about the ancient Khoe and San paintings discovered there in 2016.

Fantastic Fynbos for Families

Similar to the above walk, but this time geared for families with children. We may not get as far as the cave in two hours, depending on the age of the children and the levels of interest in all that we see along the way!

Discovery Trails

We can also take you on other routes within the reserve, if you prefer. There are wonderful plants all over the reserve awaiting your discovery, and we never know when we’ll see some of the special animals and birds that occur here, such as Klipspringer, Duiker, Rock Hyrax, Parrot-beaked Tortoise, Orange-breasted Sunbird, Black Harrier and Verreaux’s (Black) Eagle.

Rate: R400 per person (children under five free). Minimum cost per walk: R800.

Specialist botanical walks  (3-4 hours) Chris on a guided botanical walk

For those with a bit more time, and who would like to discover more about the unique flora of this part of the world, specialist botanical walks are available. Your guide, Chris, is a world expert on the plants of South Africa and also has extensive knowledge of the natural history of the area. He loves to share his knowledge of the plants, and stories of their uses and interactions with animals. There is no need for you to know anything about the fynbos or have any botanical knowledge in advance – whether you are starting with no knowledge about plants or are already a keen botanist you will be able to learn more at your own level.

Rate: R600 per person. Minimum cost per walk: R1,800.

Chris is also available for guided walks on surrounding nature reserves, please contact us for a quote.

FAB Trails (1-2 hours)

For resident guests at Phillipskop, we can also take your family or group on one of our Family Activity Bible Trails. You can find out more about these here.

Rate: R125 per person (children under five free). Minimum cost per walk: R500

Guided walks are subject to availability, please contact us at least 48 hours in advance to make your booking and avoid disappointment.
