Many hands make light work

On Saturday we had the privilege of a work party from Christ Church Hermanus come and help us paint one of our chalets. Our self-catering chalets are a good size, able to accommodate 6 to 8 people, but the disadvantage is that means a lot of wall area to cover. However, with a team of 18 adults, with plenty of assistance from 16 children, we were able to paint in a day most of the walls for one chalet (at least a first coat). Others took to clearing up outside the chalets, preparing food or entertaining the children, there was certainly no shortage of jobs to be done.

But such working parties are not just about getting jobs done. Working together is one of the best ways of getting to know one another. Sharing an experience creates opportunities to chat, regardless of background or age. You are not held back by whether you have anything in common; you immediately have a topic of conversation, even if it is just comparing who has the most paint on them. Add a spread of food for lunch and plenty of tea and cake into the mix and at the end of the day one goes away not only having achieved something but grown friendships into the bargain.

The day was certainly an encouragement to us, we are thankful to have received such help from the church family. We trust that all who joined us on the day also felt blessed by God.
